What you’ll do


A fantastic and rare opportunity has arisen to join us as a Technical Architect in a highly regarded team of technical and solution architects in the Consulting division of SAS UK & Ireland. You will help us strengthen our practice and at the same time give you the ability to share your passion for cutting edge technology trends and SAS Software with other motivated and like-minded colleagues.


Our architects have the experience & ability to operate across multiple technology and business domains. They lead the design and implementation of our customers’ SAS and analytics landscape by understanding their IT strategy & vision and solving often challenging requirements in their journey to the cloud. Architects are often the first people our customers see when projects commence; they need to be credible in front of a customer, quickly gain trust and lead our customers to success. You will have the opportunity to thrive on a variety of challenges and support SAS by putting our customers at the centre of everything we do.


You will also have access to and enjoy a global and rich network of peers, ranging from fellow architects, engineers and data scientists in the wider Consulting practice to colleagues in SAS Product Management and R&D. You will be expected to bring your technical expertise and knowledge to influence and advise internal and external stakeholders of the most appropriate design options.


Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging with customers as a trusted advisor, in a consultative fashion by performing assessments and facilitating discovery workshops
  • Defining the transition and end-state architectures in the cloud or on customer’s on-premises data centres, supporting their modernisation efforts
  • Advising customers on how SAS integrates with their IT standards and processes and designing solutions that will meet their non-functional requirements
  • Adhering and contributing to SAS Architecture Review Board standards & processes as part of the quality imperative
  • Keeping appraised with latest technology trends and current with SAS platform and technology direction
  • Proving through prototyping and engineering that complex technical solutions being put forward will work as designed
  • Guiding customers in getting value from their investments in SAS by designing solutions that reduce their TCO, minimise existing operational risks and reduce technical debt as part of a wider modernisation pathway
  • Providing a governance role through projects and programmes of work to ensure that the architecture vision is realised
  • Advising customers how to keep their SAS platforms up-to-date and compliant with current best practices
  • Building relationships with customers’ IT and business stakeholders, including enterprise architects and IT managers
  • Growing relationships with architects from consulting partners and technology providers
  • Influencing internal micro strategies and initiatives
  • Contributing to knowledge sharing sessions
  • Coaching and mentoring others

What we’re looking for


We’re looking for curious and passionate technologists, which can range from solution designers with an interest in consulting across a diverse set of industries to cloud engineers where automation is second nature. You will thrive in a role that combines the responsibilities of defining project architectures with the skills and willingness to get hands on, prove out our solutions and take further part in the project.  You are just as comfortable running workshops with customers and leading them to solutions as you are with firing up a cloud session, standing up some cloud resources and proving out the solution you’ve just come up with to give the customer the confidence they seek.


Key skills & experience:

  • 3+ years relevant experience in design or engineering roles
  • Experience in client-facing consulting role with well-developed influencing and facilitation skills
  • Competent in designing or engineering solutions in any of the main public cloud providers: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Proven hands-on experience with software tools and solutions
  • Experience in working with on-premise & cloud data solutions – Oracle, Teradata, Azure Data Lake Storage, Snowflake, BigQuery and others
  • Comfortable operating in a flexible and hybrid workplace setting with a willingness to travel (20%) for customer workshops as required

The role will involve advising our customers on how SAS integrates within customers wider IT landscape.  Candidates with experience of one or more of the below will be of particular interest:

  • Bachelor’s or higher qualification in Computer Science or alternative STEM degree
  • SAS Viya or SAS 9.4 platform
  • Kubernetes and Container technologies (e.g. docker)
  • Open-source projects (e.g. languages and frameworks)
  • Cloud-native Databases
  • REST API consumption
  • Storage Technologies
  • Enterprise Security Technologies
  • Performance testing & tuning
  • Cloud Certification
  • TOGAF Certification
  • ITIL Certification
