Econometrics Software Developer

The Global Engineering Foundation – Analytics team is seeking a talented Econometrics Software Developer to join our engineering organization. This team develops and supports core components of the SAS System that deliver a broad range of econometric and time series techniques, helping businesses understand and quantify economic impacts.

As a Software Developer, you will:

  • Research, Design, develop, and test econometrics software while adhering to R&D best practices and processes.
  • Perform numerical validation through independent coding, cross-validation with existing SAS products or third-party solutions, equivalence testing, simulations, and predictive performance analysis.
  • Plan, design, and perform functional and regression testing of SAS Econometrics software.
  • Advance the testing framework by refactoring or replacing legacy tests with modern, maintainable PyTest based implementations.
  • Review and improve software documentation for accuracy and clarity.
  • Assist Tech Support and consultants in resolving customer reported issues.
  • Engage in open‑source projects on behalf of SAS, fostering innovation and community collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or master’s degree in quantitative field (Statistics, Econometrics, Quantitative Economics)
  • Minimum of 5 years of enterprise experience in software development.
  • Strong programming skills in C; C++ or other lower-level programming languages; working knowledge of Python or R.
  • Familiarity with modern testing methodology, testing strategies and coverage.
  • Expertise in test automation scripting and frameworks such as PyTest.
  • Ability to use debugging techniques to narrow down failures within the system including viewing critical logs, examining system metrics, and understanding multi-tiered solutions.
  • The candidate should have a strong passion for quantitative fields such as statistics, econometrics, and time series analysis, and invest independent time in learning, researching, and experimenting with new innovations in the field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills coupled with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time across multiple projects; proven track record of delivering complex projects on schedule

Experience: 5-9 Years 

Additional competencies, knowledge and skills

  • Linux/Windows experience.
  • Experience using Git or GitHub for source code management and code review.
  • Experience with container and container orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Good understanding of CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with Agile SDLC practices.
