About the job

The team also supports broader insurance transformation, including modernisation of actuarial lifecycle processes and the use of advanced analytics for areas such as fraud detection and prevention.

This is an overlay role. Local Account Executives and pre-sales teams own the account relationship, you are brought in as the insurance domain authority on strategic pursuits and key customer engagements.

The team supports both new opportunities and the existing customer base, helping customers evolve their current SAS investments, adopt more modern capabilities and identify where SAS can address new business challenges, relaying such needs or requirements and working together internally with Product Management and R&D.

You will work across the customer journey, partnering with Sales, Services, Product Management, R&D and our customers to help turn opportunities into successful outcomes and build long term value from the relationship.

As a Senior Solutions Advisor, you will:

Lead the technical sale

  • Run customer discovery sessions to draw out business, risk and finance requirements, and translate them into a defensible solution approach.
  • Design and deliver demonstrations, workshops, POCs and executive presentations tailored to the specific opportunity.
  • Articulate business value and competitive differentiation against both vendor alternatives and build-it-yourself approaches.
  • Contribute to RFI/RFP responses.

Build and shape what we show

  • Direct the development of demo assets and reusable solution content against identified market needs, prototyping directly in SAS Viya where speed demands it.
  • Feed customer requirements and competitive intelligence back to Product Management.

Stay engaged after the deal

  • Advise strategic accounts on getting full value from deployed solutions.
  • Coordinate across Services, SIs, R&D and Account Executives to resolve escalations at key clients.
  • Identify and develop cross-sell opportunities from live customer relationships.

Represent SAS externally

  • Speak at industry forums, conferences and customer events.
  • Work with implementation partners and SIs on joint positioning and delivery approach.
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals.
  • Embrace curiosity, passion, authenticity and accountability. These are our values and influence everything we do.

Required qualifications

  • Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Data Science, Finance, Computer Science or a related quantitative field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • 6+ years in insurance actuarial, risk or finance — or an equivalent mix of consulting, analytics and customer-facing solution advisory. Actuarial qualification (FIA/FSA/equivalent) or progress towards it is highly valued.
  • Insurance domain experience in any of life, general, composite or reinsurance.
  • Working knowledge of at least two of: IFRS 17, actuarial modelling, reserving, pricing, ALM.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into a technology solution and explain it credibly to both a Chief Actuary and a Head of IT.
  • Comfort presenting to senior stakeholders and handling challenge in the room.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Additional competencies, knowledge and skills

  • Pre-sales, consulting or customer-facing advisory experience — you understand a sales cycle, not just a delivery project.
  • Hands-on experience with an actuarial or analytics platform: SAS, Prophet, AXIS, RAFM, Radar/Emblem, DataRobot, Alteryx, or open-source equivalents.
  • Basic cloud and architecture literacy (compute, storage, deployment models) — enough to hold your own with an enterprise architect.
  • Familiarity with the wider regulatory landscape — ICS, local RBC regimes, IFRS 9 interaction, Solvency II.

  • SQL and Python or R
